H&S

This section of the website contains information on safety, health and life issues, and child protection.

This includes information on the correct procedure for dealing with and reporting accidents and ways to manage safety in Scouting with regards to common issues such as fire safety, asbestos, food safety and running safe scout premises.

Life issues that may be relevant to young people, such as sexual health, eating disorders, bereavement and alcohol are also covered here.

There is also a section on safeguarding and child protection. This includes how to report concerns, and details of the Young People First code of good practice (yellow card).

Reporting accidents

Unfortunately, at some time in the life of many leaders or commissioners, it is likely that they will encounter an accident involving someone in the movement. Often the adults concerned are unaware of the steps which should be taken after first aid, rescue or other emergency treatment has been performed.

It is not possible to give an absolute ruling on what should be reported to Scout Insurance Services and what need not be. If in doubt, telephone the scout information centre in the first instance on 0845 300 1818 and seek advice. However, the factsheet below should give a general guide.
